This painting arose from sadness and horror associated with the 8 children from Cairns that were slaughtered. Every life is precious, and as I was painting I was reminded of the depth of pain that a parent suffers on the death of their child, hence the figure in the distance (Edvard Munch’s iconic ‘scream’ image). This is, however, the only nod towards heartbreak in the here and now. The tone of the painting is hopeful; inspired by the book ‘the Shack’ where in God’s realm human depravity is inconsequential, it is eclipsed totally by his light and love.
